Thanksgiving Food Drive

For many of us, the holiday season is officially starting this month. We’re ordering our turkeys, preparing our menus, and looking forward to our well-deserved nap and football time after Thanksgiving dinner. This isn’t the case for a large number of people throughout our communities, however. Far too many families are dreading Thanksgiving, unsure of where their next meal is coming from, let alone how to give their children a bountiful feast.

For nearly 40 years now Gleaners Community Food Bank has been working, and succeeding, at lessening the burden. Gleaners operates five distribution centers throughout Southeastern Michigan and provides food to 535 soup kitchens, food pantries, and shelters. Gleaners collects 34.5 million pounds of food a year and distributes 79,000 meals each day! Every dollar donated provides three meals and 93 cents of every donated dollar goes to food and food programs. OHVH is teaming up with Gleaners to help make sure everyone in our communities has a filling meal this Thanksgiving. For the first 3 weeks of November we will be accepting non-perishable food donations. All foods are welcomed, but those with a Thanksgiving theme are especially appreciated! Monetary donations are also welcomed. For just a small amount of your time and money you can help make sure everyone has a healthy, happy (and delicious) holiday!
